Hiking and camping anywhere in the mountains around West Yellowstone is spectacular. The terrain is varied and the opportunity to see wildlife is everywhere. And for exercise and relaxation, hiking proves beyond all doubt that we are a species well-adapted to the outdoors and wandering.
Whether venturing into magnificent Yellowstone National Park or into the local National Forest Trails, options for hiking abound. Trails range from the well-trodden to the hidden, from flat to seemingly vertical.
The weather in Yellowstone Country is unpredictable, more so in the high mountains, so bring more clothes than you may feel are necessary. Drink lots of water and bring extra food. Be very careful around areas of thermal activity. Every year, people are seriously injured and sometimes killed due to mishaps concerning hot springs and other geothermal features.
There are lots of hiking options throughout the area. We'll be creating a number of online guides to help you become familiar with local hikes into the parks, the national forests, and beyond.
And, remember, don't forget to look up, the views shouldn't be missed!
