The How, What, Where, and When of West
Weather
Mountain weather is always unpredictable. A 70 degree, sunny day can turn into a tumultuous storm complete with wind, rain and snow in a minute. It pays to always be prepared for cooler weather while enjoying the open blue sky and sunny days that have come to make West Yellowstone such a great place to visit. Even in the heart of summer, mornings can be chilly, averaging around 50 degrees. Many layers of clothes help keep you comfortable all day. As the day wears on the temperatures rise into the 70s and 80s in July or August. In wintertime, the same rules apply, only thicker, warmer layers are paramount. You should also have a water resistant, windproof outer layer. In fall and spring, crisp mornings are frequently followed by cool, brilliant days.
Equipment
There are many businesses in West Yellowstone waiting to cater to your vacation needs. Whether you seek to rent a snowmobile, bike, skis or fishing gear, Yellowstone's knowledgeable local business owners have the best gear at affordable prices.

When to Come
Winter holds special splendors for the hearty travelers who enjoy crisp weather. Winter visitors visit Yellowstone National Park during its most dramatic season. From December to March, snowmobilers, cross-country skiers and nature lovers will enjoy all that West Yellowstone has to offer. During the short summer season from June through September, more than a million people pass through the west gate of Yellowstone, drawn by the park's magnificent sites, as well as hiking, biking, hunting and fishing. As the snow retreats, spring brings a season of new life. Animals that have been absent all winter return. Many species of birds return from their winter homes.
Fall is increasingly becoming a favorite time to visit West Yellowstone. The crowds are smaller. Warm days alternate with cooler ones. The fishing is as good as it gets, and the wildlife are visible as they prepare for winter.
